Chapter Twenty One

Annie scanned the card and the door swung open.

“Wow,” said Robin, walking in, bag in hand. “Nice choice.”

“Thanks.”

She'd tried hard. Not, she'd thought, because she wanted to impress Robin, but because comfort was important and because she so rarely got out of the city. So why not turn this into a vacation? Now she was here though, now that she'd heard Robin's 'wow' she knew damn well that she'd chosen the expensive suite to impress her.

Hell, half of her clients must be rich enough to buy the entire hotel. She ignored the voice in her head that told her that she was rich enough to buy the entire hotel. And then she ignored the same voice as it told her that the word 'clients' was something she should really focus on. Robin was an escort. A fact that was getting weirder and weirder every day.

“Nice bed,” Robin said, sitting on it and bouncing up and down.

“Let me try.” She wanted to be free and light-hearted, so she did the same but she was so conscious of Robin beside her that she took no joy in it. So conscious that she was there and they were both there and there was a bed and there was only one bed.

Crap. So much for this not being awkward.

“Mind if I take this dresser over here?” Robin asked.

She was already up and pulling things out of her bag. “No, not at all,” Annie said, scrambling to get to her own bag.

She hurriedly pulled out all her stuff, up-ending the bag on the bed and starting to re-fold things. She shot a glance at Robin who was hanging up a dress bag. Okay, they could do this. She could do this. This was part of the deal. Two nights in a hotel room.

When she'd agreed to this deal, of course, it had been two nights in a hotel room with a woman who made her feel comfortable and who could be a friend. Now it was two nights in a hotel room with a woman whose clothes she kind of wanted to rip off, whose lips she wanted to press to her own, whose legs she wanted to part and...

She caught sight of Robin lifting a handful of the skimpiest, silkiest underwear she'd ever seen out of her bag and gasped. Blood rushed to her face.

Who was she kidding? This weekend was the worst idea she'd ever had. There was no way she could do this. And Robin was being so professional, was fulfilling her side of the bargain and all she could do was stare and gasp and be confused.

“Annie.”

She blinked, swallowed, looked up. “Mmm?” She couldn't even look Robin in the eye right now.

There was the sound of muffled footsteps as Robin came to her, then a hand reached for hers and someone was pulling her down to sit on the bed. She kept her gaze firmly on the floor.

“It's weird, isn't it?” Robin said softly. “Strange. Being in a hotel room with another woman.
